From Innovation to Implementation: Advancing Clean Cooking Technologies for the Next Generation of Energy Access Türkiye Pavilion , COP31 Green Zone Date and Time: 16th November 10.00 – 10.45 (45 minutes) Co-organised by: Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS), GeCCo and KESID (the Turkish Small Domestic Appliances Industrialists and Exporters Association) Session Concept Achieving universal access to modern cooking requires more than technological innovation. It requires solutions that respond to the diverse needs of households and communities, can be integrated into national energy strategies, and are supported by enabling policy environments, sustainable financing and viable local markets. As countries in emerging economies accelerate their energy transitions, a range of innovative technologies and business models are emerging to expand access to cleaner, more affordable and sustainable cooking solutions. This session will bring together representatives from Uganda, Tanzania and Nigeria alongside four technology providers – Kumtel, Vestel, Clean Cooking Technologies and ATEC – to explore how innovation can translate into practical solutions and wider access. Through interactive technology showcases and a facilitated exchange between country representatives, technology providers and development partners, the session will examine the opportunities and enabling conditions needed to accelerate clean cooking adoption. With contributions from UNEP on behalf of SOLCO, the session will connect technology innovation with the broader policy, implementation and development agenda. Particular attention will be given to the realities faced by decision-makers in the Global South, including affordability, infrastructure, electricity access, consumer adoption, financing, local capacity and sustainable business models. The session aims to foster practical exchange, build connections between technology providers and potential implementation partners, and identify opportunities for collaboration to accelerate clean cooking transitions.
